Any Soham vs Bury game is destined to be a very competitive affair with far more than three premier league points at stake. With the corresponding fixture earlier in the season finishing 3 – 3, there was an air of expectation from both teams. Despite a few nerves in the changing room, Soham were solid right from the start, pressing Bury every time they entered our half, forcing them into mistakes and allowing us to gather the ball and counter. This team is maturing rapidly and looking more comfortable and composed with every game. After great periods of possession, the breakthrough came with Scott Neville deflecting the ball into the Bury net. The search for a second goal took some time before Harry Parfitt popped up on the far post to convert two minutes before the interval.
With barely twenty seconds on the clock at the beginning of the second half, Robbie Allander buried an absolute screamer into the top corner of the Bury goal with a shot from his own half.
At 3 – 0 down, Bury began to push, leaving us more room to work in their own half which Alex Jones exploited with a peach of a pass for Scott Neville to convert. At 4 – 0, Bury were rewarded a direct from a fairly innocuous challenge which was very well taken by the Bury captain.
Soham bounced straight back from the restart with a brilliant individual effort from Alex Jones, bursting down the left and beating the keeper well. With Soham playing keep-ball, Bury racked up the team fouls trying to gain possession. Ten team fouls, step up Ryan Norton who buried a lovely direct against his old club. One final goal and a party piece from Alex Jones rounded off a fine 7 – 1 win for Soham.
A great game played in good spirit by both teams.
