Premier League Game v Kings Lynn – Saturday 21st May

For the second time in a row Soham faced the current league leaders. This time it was Kings Lynn who had leapfrogged Grimsby since our last outing. Soham were down to five outfield players after a red card from a Kings Lynn referee in our win against Grimsby. Kings Lynn are a really good side, in good form, well organised and always strong in numbers. The game started brightly with both teams knowing what was at stake. Soham scored first with a long range shot from Alex Jones assisted from the Soham captain screening the Lynn keeper. Soham held the lead for 10 minutes before Kings Lynn equalised with a very similar goal. The game closed 1-1 at half time.

The second half continued very much as the first had finished, lively, end to end with goal opportunities from both teams. Eight minutes in, Soham took the lead again, five minutes later Kings Lynn equalised, all very tight. Soham then entered a good period of the game for them, scoring two goals in two minutes. The first goal, and his second of the day, from Alex Jones and then a direct and his second goal of the day from Scott Neville. Nine and a half minutes left and Kings Lynn naturally pushed with Soham finding themselves pegged back in their own half and energy levels draining fast, paying the price for a small squad. Now under real pressure Soham conceded two goals in just over a minute. Five minutes left on the clock and it was anybody’s game however, 4-4 it remained. A great game, well refereed and played in good spirit by both teams. While a draw is a fair result both teams really needed all the points to challenge Grimsby for the league title.

Team on the day:

4 – Robbie Allander
6 – Ryan Norton
7 – Scott Neville (C)
8 – Alex Jones
9 – Harry Parfitt
10 – Tom Allander (GK)
